You bought a garment
with this label on it?
That means you can be sure it's a quality item made right here in Australia by someone who earned a fair wage in decent conditions
Experience:
When I was a child, I liked sewing. Since then I was interested in sewing. When I finished my education, I asked my father to help me with sewing school, but it was so expensive. My church community helped me to do the dressmaking course, which was for 2 years, and my community helped me to do the Batik and textiles course, which was one year. The course didn’t finish because of the war.
Skilled at:
In Africa, I used to make dresses for men and women and I sold them, after doing tie-dying. Some people gave me their designs, and I would make them. Orange and dark green are my favourite colours.
Why did you choose to work in fashion / textiles?
When I came here, I was so confused about what to do, what to study, and I decided to continue sewing because of my dressmaking back home. But there were no opportunities.
Best thing about the job?
When my community leaders told me about The Social Studio I was so happy. That’s why I’m always here, always on time, because I have interest.
Favorite item of clothing?
I like African designs, especially Batik and Gala Tie prints. I like printing and dying fabrics.
